I guess saying it’s a small world would be a funny pun because of the world race (lol), but the reality is that people cross paths more than I would’ve ever realized. I had the privilege of working closely with this fun energetic girl named Mary at Carolina Creek Christian Camps in the summer of 2017, and we were actually in the same bible study. We didn’t get super close that summer, but we definitely each gained an instagram follower ya know.

My friend Katie worked at Carolina Creek as well, but I unfortunately didn’t get the chance to get close to her in our multiple summers as staff as she worked with the older campers where I worked with the younger. However, I’ve gotten to follow along on her journey with the world race via social media and when I accepted I asked everyone who was race affiliated if they knew Katie. You could say she was one of those people you don’t know too well in real life, but you feel super close because of following them on social media. LOL. I’m not a stalker I …promise.

fun fact: she was actually super close to being my squad leader for the race I’m on now, but God called her to I-squad last minute and now she gets to be Mary’s squad leader!

I-Squad is an expedition squad, which means their goal of the race is all based in the 10-40 window. Due to Covid however, they have to start in the countries that allow us, one being where we are in Guatemala.

SO THAT MEANS I’ve gotten to see them and we had training in Antigua on Wednesday all together. (Covid friendly of course)

And so as hard as it is seeing them for such a brief period, it’s so cool to see how God has sent all of us and we were able to cross paths with people we think we’ll never see again.

& I can’t wait to see what God has planned for them throughout the next 11 months.

Katie, you are literally so beautiful, and I pray you get the chance to see it for yourself. You are the kind, special soul that gives everything you have to whatever you may be doing in that moment (camp life, race life, etc). Your love and service for others is something I so deeply admire, and the way you carry yourself is nothing short of confident and graceful.

Mary, Lord Farquad, and the one that loves airport feasts, I pray you always know how much joy you freely give to those around you. I honestly never expected to see you again, but the way the Lord has crossed our paths is something I will never take for granted. I pray as you go on this race that you are met with the most compassionate and hardest challenges, because God has so much for you to receive.

I love you both, go crush these next 11. You won’t get them back.
